It is rarely touched on, whether in empirical investigations or theoretical discussions. In the Anglophone world, the principal and theoretical discussions have just start. What I particularly like about Doren's work though are the insights which remind me of Trilling's commentaries on literature: they are very well written and very profound. I was disappointed that he went through the 19th century Prelude to Modernity without even mentioning Impressionism painting.
