Oct 11, which had such rave reviews that I expected to absolutely love it. Kitty lives a privileged life in the castle and Bridie is the daughter of one of the cooks.The only thing that could make it better is know that the book is the first of a trilogy and that if the other two are as good as the first I have a lot of great reading ahead of me. One of the key ways this book surpasses the author's previous books for me is the wonderful detail and depth given to so many fascinating characters. Found the storyline flowed well. It would just anv nice if it was a better story.

I love twist or cliffhanger endings to keep me excited while I wait! I wish more tension had been created between them, but I did like the way the author gave them different emotions and different motives for making the same bad decisions everyone else was making. Stationed in Yugoslavia and later in Milan, everything he treasures is threatened as he confronts events during the war and witnesses firsthand the destruction of his homeland. But that is no excuse to be selfish and unfaithful and it does not make it okay to make horrible mistakes with no thought to the consequences.
