I've read Coates work in the Atlantic for years now and my fundamental impression of him is unchanged. Coates probably has never heard of them because he is so narrowly-focused. He doesn't go much into issues of legal justice or the prison system, you lost me, queestions the evidence is in front of us all that people of color are not equally safe or free. By sharing.

I plan to teach the book for two of my courses this academic year. But for all of the beauty and power of the book, it is also profoundly troubling.
