Beauty and the Beast Story Fairy Tale ~ Bedtime Story for Children

There was once a very rich merchant, who had six children, three sons, and three daughters; being a man of sense, he spared no cost for their education, but gave them all kinds of masters. His daughters were extremely handsome, especially the youngest. When she was little everybody admired her, and called her "The little Beauty;" so that, as she grew up, she still went by the name of Beauty, which made her sisters very jealous. The youngest, as she was handsomer, was also better than her sisters. The two eldest had a great deal of pride, because they were rich. They gave themselves ridiculous airs, and would not visit other merchants' daughters, nor keep company with any but persons of quality.

The meaning of one of the oldest fairy tales in the world — analysed by Dr Oliver Tearle. Her older sisters are far prouder than she is, and let it be known that they will only marry an earl or duke. When their father loses his fortune, the two older sisters find it difficult to adjust to a life of penury, but the loyal and modest Beauty sets about finding ways to help out her father around the house. After a year of this, their merchant-father receives a letter telling him that a ship containing some of his property has arrived in port, so he sets off to meet it. He asks his daughters what gifts they would like him to bring back for them: the two eldest daughters ask for expensive gowns and jewels, but Beauty requests a simple rose.

Thank you. A moment after, everything disappeared. I fear I will be unhappy for many a long day still. Beauty and the Beast is a wonderful story. He plucked a red rose from the bush.

Variants of the tale are known across Europe. According to researchers at universities in Durham and Lisbon , the story originated around 4, years ago. A widower merchant lives in a mansion with his twelve children six sons and six daughters. She was the most lovely, as well as kind, well-read, and pure of heart; while the elder sisters, in contrast, are cruel, selfish, vain, and spoiled. The merchant eventually loses all of his wealth in a tempest at sea, which sinks most of his merchant fleet. He and his children are consequently forced to live in a small cottage in a forest and work for a living. While Beauty makes a firm resolution to adjust to rural life with a cheerful disposition, her sisters do not and mistake her determination for stupidity.

The next day, and then his daughters wept loudly, the merchant did not find anyone in the castle. Very interesting. Later that evening he told his family of his adventures from beginning to end. Young girls are still getting the message in a rather covert but definite way.

It made me cry so hard at the end. I have read, listen and watched so many variations of this tale and it feels great still! Mec Mec. I were spectecles when i read!
